Most people know that Matthew and I want to be parents, and y’all are so wonderfully supportive and excited about that! So here’s an update on Project Pregnancy.
Fair warning: this post contains details about bodily functions, so if you’re squeamish about menstrual cycles or ovulation, you should read no further.
So, I haven’t had my period since I went off the pill in October. You’d think that would be great, because who likes a period? But actually it’s kind of annoying because no period means no ovulation, and no ovulation means no baby. Then you just end up having sex because it feels good instead of because it feels good AND creates the miracle of life.
So, I exchanged a few emails with my doctor, debated the efficacy of acupuncture with my husband, got sort of apathetic about taking my vitamins, and finally scheduled a medical appointment on the 90th day of my cycle. (Typical cycles are 28 days, FYI).
Now there is a plan: Jump start my lady-organs by taking progesterone to induce a period, and use ovulation tests to see if my ovaries are firing right. Drink milk thistle tea and smoothies with macha powder. Consider again a detox and acupuncture. Commence baby-making!
If I don’t get my period in 20 days, they can do an ultrasound to see what the lady-organs look like within a month. If I get my period, but I don’t start ovulating, I can talk to a reproductive endocrinologist after two months.
If you’re interested, I feel like I have a working understanding of what could possibly be going wrong, but I’m not going to go into it here.
Most importantly, you should know that I’m feeling good about this plan.
I don’t feel like the whole world wants or needs monthly updates, but I’m thinking maybe a quarterly post on the matter would suffice. So expect to see another post in April! Inquiring minds are welcome to contact me if you can’t wait that long (some of you already have).
Thank you for keeping me in the loop. Sounds like you’re proceeding in an intelligent manner (naturally)
Is there any question about the male contribution ? Talk to Anthony and Colleen. Just saying…..
Anyway have fun trying ! I love you two and you are going to be amazing
Parents !
Good question, Annie! It’s still super early in the process. I haven’t even been off the pill for 6mos yet, and technically we’ve barely even had a chance to **try** to conceive.
If I ovulate a bunch of times (12+) and we don’t conceive, THEN we look at other factors, one of which is “the male contribution” 😉
